I read it and to me, it was weak as hell. The analogy only gave the reader the dating game through the point of view of the Coach, GM and Owner. What about the point of view of the PLAYER? because that’s what most of us are in this game. What about getting out there on your field of choice to play for whatever it is you want? Some people play for a meaningful relatioship while some people play for sex. There are those who play for that “elusive” wedding ring and bells and whistles of a wedding, while some play for self esteem or even money and revenge. The point is, everything looks good in the front office and in the luxury boxes. The field in love is just as brutal and unforgiving as the gridiron or maybe even worse because while you may have wingmen or wingwomen if you will, but you are a one man or one woman team at the end of the day. Honestly, I dont know where the author of this feature is coming from when she wrote what she wrote. But for me and maybe for most people, the following is what can and does happen in the game of love.
We get our hearts mangled and ripped apart like Theismann’s leg only to patch it up again and get out there. We do this because, could it be that the reward is greater than the risk? While some patch up the ‘heart’ and get out there again, some just go the sideline. People go to the sideline for various reason. Maybe they need to study the ‘playbook’ before trying again, or they wine or give up.
The author of “Dating is Like the Super Bowl” wrote about people being ‘benchwarmers’ and ‘trade material’ now who in the hell wants to be that? People will do whatever they can to aviod being that. Who is gonna stand on the sidelines like a damn fool and wait for the ‘Coach’ to make up his or her mind? Anyone worth their salt would get out there and find somebody else!
I do however agree with the author’s ‘rules’ of the game. one of the stories subjects said. ”When cutting or releasing a date, you should always do it in person, especially if that date has been a good performer and has contributed to the overall success of your ‘team.’ and “Never release your decision to the ‘press’ or your pack of friends beforehand.”
Thats is some great rules but how bout strategy? In the game of love, in my opinion, defense is key!
For those who did not watch last night’s Falcons/Saints game, Falcons owner Authur Blank talked to the Monday Night Football broadcasting team. He talked about the all of Vicks roadblocks for an NFL return. Then, he mentioned the possiblilty of Vick eating too much fried chicken and gaining weight.
There are two ways to look at this: One, what Blank said was racist. Two, Blank offered a poor commentary on the possibility of Vick’s diet behind bars.
After looking at the video, what do you all think? racist or wrong choice of words?
After Sunday’s thrilling victory over the Colts, The Patriots have the nerve to say Indianapolis cheated by putting artificial noise in the loud ass RCA Dome.
This is a punk ass move by New England because they A) won the game and B) was caught cheating in week one. Calling out Indy is hypocritical and bitchmade! Patriot officials only did this because they know that the Colts imploded at the end. If the score was 44-20, New England, nothing would have been said about the noise.
Insinuating that Indy need the RCA dome to win is about as abusurd as NE spying on the weak, tired ass Jets and the Packers a few years back. For Indy, we have Manning, Harrison (when healthy), Adai on offense. Their Cover 2 defense is among the best in the league. The fans in Indianapolis are crazy about that team; why do they need artificial noise?
Granted, the Patriots are one hell of a football team thanks to Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Adalieus Thomas and now Rodney Harrison. However, the antics of the front office and the coaches negates the talent and hard work of these guys. Now, they all look like nitpicking attention hoes!
Take the win that Indianapolis gave you all, shut your traps and enjoy your bye week!
I had the opportunity to catch the interview that Donovan McNabb did with Real Sports, and I cannot believe all of the flack and criticism that he has received in his career. Here is a quarterback that lead the Eagles to division and NFC championships, been to the pro bowl multiple times, not making it rain, not dogfighting, and no baby mama issues. However, that is not good enough for the football world.
Granted, he effed up in Super Bowl XXVIII but there are so many quarterbacks out there that have been effing up for their entire careers. Donovan’s been criticized by some reporters for running out of the pocket. A black paper in Philadelphia criticized him for morphing into a pocket passer. While McNabb’s intentions are good, he cannot win for losing and tries too damn hard to please people.
Right now, he is returning from major knee surgery, and Philly is 0-2. Yeah, McNabb is out of sync but so is the entire team! The video above fits this situation perfectly!
LMMFAO @ this whole mess. Honestly, Goodell’s punishment was a joke! A half a million to Bellicheck is nothing. A $200,000 plus team fine is nothing. I believe that Coach Bellicheck should be suspended for 4 games in addition to the fine, and the Patriots should forfiet the Jets game.
Like I said in my previous thread about this topic. If you want to spy on a defense, spy on Pittsburgh’s, Baltimore’s, San Diego’s and Indianapolis’! Spying on the Jets was pretty retarded! New England could have beat the Jets and their meat at the same time. There was no need to spy on this squad.
I’m laughing my ass off at Bellicheck for thinking that Eric Mangini would not sell him out! He had to know that Mangini was going to snitch because it is not like these two are the best of friends. Eric had a great motive to sell out Bill!
IF the Patriots lose Sunday, I can just hear the sports media picking these guys apart.
“I think the Patriots actually live by the saying, ‘If you’re not cheating, you are not trying.’ They live off of that statement. Nothing surprises me really. You keep hearing about stuff that they do.”
-Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson
NFL Comissioner Roger Goodell announced today that the New England Patriots did indeed violate league rules when a team official used a camera to spy to record the Jets’ defensive signals.
When I heard about this, I thought that the Jets were spearheading this investigation, and they were just salty because they got jacked up and blown out. Apparently this isn’t the first time this went on with New England. Last year, the Packers accused the team of doing the same thing!
The biggest question here is WHY? Why in the hell would the team stoop so low to gain an advantage when they have such a loaded team on offense? The answer is this: GREED! Don’t get me wrong, great team (Moss, Rodney Harrison, Stallworth, Adalieus Thomas, Junior Seau) but Bellichek is foul for this.
Honestly, I’m looking at this team like they are retarded because they are stealing signals from the damn New York Jets! Now, I can see the Patriots spying on Baltimore, San Diego, and Indianapolis! Spying on New York is senseless and absurd!
I believe that the NFL should open this thing up all the way and investigate games from six years ago-even the Super Bowls! If they find more issues, the NFL should make the Patriots forfiet games and pay out of the ass in fines and draft picks!
For the longest, I always thought that the Bears were the only ones that did a music video. To my shock and horror, I was wrong. I found on you tube the Cowboys, LA Raiders and the infamous 49er Rap. Since the Bears have company in the cheesy songs and videos category, I think it’ll be fun to compare and contrast.
Bears- Super Bowl Shuffle
Niners-49er Rap
Cowboys-Living The American Dream
Raiders-Silver and Black Attack
Now, you have the vids! Which ones were decent? Which ones were a hot mess?
I ran across an interesting video segment that Ray Lewis did for the NFL Network. In the first part of the segment, he mentions that there are many players in the league today that are about the flash and athleticism while not particulary taking stock in gameday preparation and working out in the offseason. Any player worth their salt in the game would want to do everything that he can to make his team and himself better-extra time with the film and the playbook and extra time in the weight room, anything to say “my team is winning and I have something to do with its success.”
When you look at players such as Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, Roger Craig and Jerry Rice, you would not only look at their the amazing talent that that they had, but you would also look at their stellar work eithic. These guys stayed glued to the film, the hills-in the case of Payton, Craig, and Rice, and to their playbook. As a result, two are in the hall of fame, one is a first ballot hall of famer, and the other one should have been on one of those ballots.
When it comes to some of today’s players, what Lewis said was right: There are those who are more about the flash and highlights and less about the work it takes to be one of the NFL’s elite. Sometimes you can just tell who did and who didnt earn their trips to the Pro Bowl and their accolades. In my opinion, you can tell this in their team’s win column and if the player turns in great performances consistantly.
Lewis’ work eithic is why he remains on of the elite linebackers in the league. Manning’s and Brady’s attention to detail and studies in the playbook and in the film room is what sets them apart from other quarterbacks. LaDanian Tomilison is another guy with a strong work ethic. Granted he may not have the flash that seems to be so important to a few sportscasters, but he is one guy that knows about sacrifice in the off season (he patterned his work out regimen after Payton’s) and it got him league MVP honors, three single season records, and the distinction of becoming the first and only player in league history to rush for 1,000 yards and catch 100 balls in a single season.
This is where dicipline and a strong work ethic takes you!
