SPYGATE: THE TRUTH

Posted by jannelle on February 17, 2008

Like I said in my previous post, the reason why this “Spygate” controversy is bigger than what it was in week one has little to do with football. This all boils down to politics and revenge.  This is how I see things:

In my opinion, Senator (and Philadelphia Eagles Season ticket holder) Arlean Specter does not really care much about the league destroying the Patriots’ tapes, this issue goes beyond that.  The investigation is really about the league’s antitrust exemption, an issue that Specter have been rallying against for years.  The antitrust matter is pressing for Senator Specter becuase he accepted $153,600 in campaign contributions from Comcast Cable and its affiliates, and Specter promiced that he will support legislating ending the NFL’s Anti-trust exemption.

Currently, Comcast cable is in a nasty dispute with the NFL over a deal concerning the NFL network. If the exemption is lifted, networks like Comcast would benefit because the teams will have the opportunity to negoiate their own cable deals. It seems as if the Eagles would chose Comcast because the cable company is a sponsor of the team.  Since the Anti-trust is still standing, Comcast is losing out on some serious dough.

This isnt the first time that Spector butted his nose into NFL business. He sought to have his beloved Eagles and the league investigated for anti-trust violations over their handling of T.O. three years ago.

In the spygate drama, Spector found another way to stick it to the NFL.  He jumped on the bash the Patriots bandwagon. He had motive  to do so because his Eagles lost Super Bowl XXXIX. He is betting on the Patriots to go down so the Eagles could somehow benefit from this scandal. Most important, Spector sees this spygate mess as his best opportunity to end the Anti-Trust exemption and clown the league.

Nothing will warm the cockles of Senator Spector’s heart more than to see the NFL and Roger Goodell embarrased and clowned, believe that!

Rams Sue Patriots

Posted by jannelle on February 17, 2008

Yesterday, I learned that former Rams S Willie Gary filed a 100 million dollar law suit against the New England Patriots, team owner Robert Kraft, and head coach Bill Belichick for the alleged taping of Rams practices before Super Bowl XXXVI.

I dont know what to make out of this but  if the U.S. District Court continues with this, watch the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and even the Jets file lawsuits of thier own.

In my opnion,  the lawsuit is pointless and all it is doing is givng this “story” more legs. If Gary and the Rams felt so passionate about this matter, why didnt they do this six years ago?  They are only coming out with this because it is open season on the Patriots. When New England lost the Super Bowl,  the whole “Spygate” matter intensified.

This is pointless beacuse winning that suit may give the Rams and Gary some money but the fact of the matter is they cannot and will not get the Lombardi trophy.  This may not even go to trial.

As far as Spygate as a whole is concerned, this goes beyond football.

Check out the next entry.

STUNNER: GIANTS UPSET PATS!

The New York Giants shocked the world last night when they  beat the New England Patriots 17-14 in Super Bowl XLII.  Saying that the Giants played one hell of a game is an understatement.  Eli Manning played nearly flawless and controlled football. New York’s D applied the pressure to Brady and sacked him 5 times. The win was well deserved.

Now, I am not a fan of New England and I was hoping that they would have gotten beat sooner, but I have to take my hat off to them for the regular season they had.   I was actually rooting for them  for two reasons. A) I have a bias for AFC Teams B) I got into it with my on again off again over this game.

For years, I always thought  that the AFC is the toughest confrence to play and  win in and I still do. Watching those teams in that confrence is what makes the game exciting in my opinion. Even the weakest teams are tough. Tonights loss by New England does not change the way I feel about the AFC!

Sadly, I could not enjoy NE getting their big because of reason B! Now the Red Zone isnt the place for my personal shit but I will make an exception today. My on and off again is a Giants fan. I favored New England for that very reason because I’m my own woman and he couldn’t stand me with an opposing opinion. He would call me bitter, hostile, a hater when it isnt even like that! I guess he didnt get the memo that people disagree sometimes and Just because you have an opposing view regrardless of the strength of that view, it doesnt make you bitter or a ‘hater’. Yeah I talked shit! No different than what  other football fans do!

Unfortunately Brady, Moss, AD, and Rodney couldn’t bail me out! So, before I could say congrats, here he come, yapping, and yapping and yapping some more. So things got heated.  He wanted me to apoligize for running down his team.  I said I wasn’t apologizing for anything!  I dont grovel or back down!  So we went at it!

So congratulations to the Giants and all of their fans except for one!

Spygate Revisited!

Posted by jannelle on February 3, 2008

On Super Bowl eve, there are reports circulating about the Patriots spying on the Rams before New England’s first Super Bowl Win. The timing of this revelation is impeccable. Why didnt the media reveal this during the incident with the Jets? Is this a case of scrapping up something to broadcast or write about? If it isnt that, Could it be that the media is turing their backs on the Patriots?

At first, I thought it was  about the Jets being sore losers until it was revealed that the league launched the ‘Spygate’ investigation.  It is known that each team in the league have tired to gain an extra advantage but I guess the taping is where it stops.

If the Patriots win today, will the game and the rest of the games they won be under review?

We will see at 6:00!

What is Plaxico Smoking?

Posted by jannelle on January 28, 2008

Yesterday, Giants WR Plaxico Burress said that New York’s receiving corps were just as good or better than the Patriots’ corp.  My take is this: It is great to go in the game with some confidence but to feed the Patriots more motivation is a bad ideal. Plaxico missed the memo that said that “New England thrives off of criticisim and use it for motivation.”

After Spygate, the Chargers dissed the Patriots. The Patriots demolished the Chargers in Week two.

Steelers’ CB Anthony Smith Guaranteed a victory of the Pats and ended up getting beat deep by Moss.  The Patriots D shut down the Steelers’, holding them to 10 points.

In the AFC Championship round, the Chargers were talking again. The Chargers lost again.

Now, Plaxico and the Giants are yapping. Osi was on Inside the NFL pretty much accusing the Patriots of being dirty. Now Plaxico is talking bout how he and the rest of the Giants are better than the Patriots in catching the ball.

While the Giants are solid at receiver, the Patriots are statistically better.

Burress ended the season with 70 catches for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns. Armani Toomer ended the season with 59 catches for 760 yards and three touchdowns. After those two, the numbers fell off hard and fast.

Before Shockey went down, he had 57 catches, 619 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other hand,

Moss ended his season with 98 catches, 1,493 yards and a record setting 23 touchdowns.

Wes Welker  had 112 catches, 1,175 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Dante Stallworth made catches that gained at least 30 yards in seven of New England’s games.

Jabar Gaffney chipped in with six touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was a game winner against the Ravens.

Now Plaxico, do you still think that your guys are better? You should have siaid that the Giants TE’s were better.

Patriots TE Benjamin Watson had 30 catches for 389 yards and six touchdowns. If Shockey didnt get injured, he would have had at least six touchdowns.

Like I said, it is good to have faith in your squad but don’t talk reckless like that. Just focus on the game! For Plaxico’s sake, I hope he and the rest of the Giants can back up their talk.

Brady Hurt? Yeah Right!

Posted by jannelle on January 22, 2008

noboot.jpg

From Boston.com Via INF

It seems as if people didnt get the memo about Bellichick and the Patriots. The memo is: This team is not only good but they are experts at the art of mind games.   The NFL’s website along with MSN, TMZ,and ESPN is asking about the status of Tom Brady’s ‘injury’

A photo and a video were leaked today with Brady limping in a walking cast. This is all over the web but it to me, the picture above is the real story here. Tom Brady isn’t hurt!  This image from Boston.com is of Brady and Gazelle or  Gissette or whatever her name is walking into the club.  Where is the footbrace? Where is the limp? Acoording to page six, Tom didnt appear to show any signs of injury in the club.

So, if folks want to know the truth about this, just go to  www.boston.com and call it a day!

SUPER BOWL XLII: GIANTS VS PATS

Posted by jannelle on January 21, 2008

Aight! Its finally here! The 42nd edition of the Super Bowl, and who would have thought that the matchup would be between the Giants and the Patriots?  Now, noone is shocked to see New England here. However, no one expected the G-Men to be here.

Honestly, I wasnt even expecting them to make the playoffs because while they have the talent, it was too much friction between Tom Couglin and the Players,  Tiki retiring, and Strahan contemplating retirement. New York started off the season wrong with a couple of losses.  After the ’goal line stance ‘ game against the Redskins, the Giants started to believe. They carried that belief in themselves to a wild card berth  in the playoffs. They  were on the verge of beating New England in the final game of the regular season. They carried that confidence to Tampa, Dallas, and tonight Green Bay and turned it into wins.

New England , on the other hand was a juggernaut from begining to end.  They survived the spygate mess and went on to 16-0 in the regular season. At times, these guys looked beatable. Philly, Baltimore, Indianapolis, and the Giants were points away from beating these guys.  However, yesterday, New England was a hot mess. Brady threw 3 interceptions and Moss was pretty much invisible during the game.  The Chargers did not capatialze on the Pats’ mistakes and they paid for it with their ticket to Arizona. The Chargers were in the red zone three times and only mustered up field. You dont beat New England that way.

Now we have a rematch of week 17. Hopefully, this would be interesting.

Stay tuned for keys of the game.

Randy Moss Accused of Battery

Posted by jannelle on January 17, 2008

Today,Randy Moss vehemently denied allegations of a Ft. Lauderdale woman claiming that the All Pro Receiver committed battery. Moss claims that this is extortion!

“They’re false allegations. Something I have been battling for like the last couple of days of threats going public if I didn’t pay X amount of dollars”  He said.

This is what we know so far.

-The incident allegedly happened on Jan. 6 on New England’s bye week.

-The woman in question knew Randy for 11 years, and he is not denying that something happened but he is denying “battery” and claiming the incident as an accident.

-The woman and her reps issued a restraining order on Moss.

-No Charges filed

-No police report

-Hearing scheduled Jan. 28

As it stands right now,  I want to give Randy the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, everyone knows about the incidents in that past  but they are by no means like this one since he came into the league. Moss have been doing everything possible to a productive member of the Patriots. So why would he throw it away over this kind of drama?

The problem I have with this is:  Why didn’t Rachelle Washington report this incident promptly? Why did she wait until the AFC Championship Game to come out with this?  According to Moss, Washington has her own house and own ride, why didnt she seek medical attention? It wasnt like Moss could stop her.

Right now, the media, critics and everyone in between should reserve judgement until more facts surface.

Jerry Rice Vs. Randy Moss Vs. The Media

Posted by jannelle on January 4, 2008

Photo from NFL.com

” I don’t think breaking Jerry Rice’s record was special. Shutting you guys up (NFL MEDIA) made it special.” -Randy Moss after beating the Giants in the Season Finale.

When I heard that statement, and after cracking up over it, I knew that a ’feud’ would be on the horizon.  Today, I was right because Jerry  said that Moss’ statement was a “slap in the face and added “That’s Moss”

On Mike and Mike in the Morning, Sean Salisbury and Mike Greenburg questioned his statement and the guys from Around The Horn discussed the statement with Woody Paige and two others siding with Moss.

Well, my take on this statement is this: Moss’ problem is not with Rice but with the mainstrem NFL media.  Check this out, Moss have been a target of these guys ever since he came into the league.  Weeks before the ‘98 draft, they talked about his fight in high school and his dismissal from Florida State. During his career, they didn’t talk much about the good things he done in Minnesota.  Instead, they talked about the incident with Minneapolis police, the ‘mooning’ incident, and walking off of the field before the game is over. In Oakland, he had one 1,000 yard receiving season before the Raiders really began to errode.

When Moss was traded on draft day to New England, the media thought the he would be locker room poison to the team. The media thought that he and Brady would not get along. Seventeen weeks later, the joke was on the mainstream NFL media. Randy Moss finished the year with 98 receptions, 1,493 yards, a record setting 23 receiving touchdowns and 0 distractions and disturbances.

After the Giants’ game, the same guys bashing  were the same guys  kissing his ass! Obviously, Moss remembered all of the negativity and the things they said about him. That was when and why  he said what he said. After sucking up to Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick, the media thought about what Moss said, got mad and talked about it today.  Most of these guys have been reporters since Rice was in his prime, and they knew how he was or even is to this day!

Most of these mainstream media knew about Rice and his competive nature and his epidsodes where he feels like he’s been disrespected. The media also know that Rice is trying to extend his celebrity beyond the gridiron.  Rice’s response was not suprising at all nor was his hint that he set the record in the midst of a player strike, and  the implication that Moss’ record should have an astrick.

This is how I see it!  Rice is bitter and salty because A) He lost one of his many NFL records. B) He lost it to someone like Randy Moss and C) Randy didn’t show Rice the respect that he feels entitled to.

My first memory of football was as an eight year old little girl watching Super Bowl XXIV. I was in front of the screen and I  took notice of a man wearing a white jersey with the number 80 on it in bold, scarlet red print, running pattern after pattern and catching touchdowns and passes. I have been a fan of that man, his team at the time, and the game of football since.

As I grew older, and didn’t cheer for the Niners much anymore, I still list Jerry Rice as my favorite football player of all time.

Now, when it comes to Saturday’s incident and Jerry’s reponse, I have to draw the flag. I call B.S. on what Jerry implied before Randy broke the record and after he broke the record because although he  publicly said that he would congratulate Moss, deep down, he didn’t want him to break the record.  If Marvin Harrison broke the record, Rice wouldn’t have a problem with it because Marvin reminds Jerry of himself and Moss is seen as the epitome of what Jerry supposenly despises-flash (despite the fact Rice dipped his hair in Duke and Care Free Curl (fifi hairstyle)  and danced in the end zone himself), controversy and distractions (despite the fact that Rice raised hell when he didn’t get the ball and felt slighted when reporters didnt give him credit), atagonistic relationship with the press and being moody (yeah, Jerry  had that going  too.)

When Moss was on the verge of breaking the record, Rice implied that an astrick should be on #23 because it took Randy 16 games while it took Rice 12 games in strike riddled 1987. He could not say, ‘Well, records fall.  Whatever.’ his competitiveness and pride would not let him.

After the press confrence, Rice was mad and saw Moss’ comments as a diss when it wasn’t even about Rice. Moss’ diss was for the MEDIA. Isn’t it funny that Jerry implied that breaking Moss’ record wasn’t special because he didn’t do it in 12 games and got mad because Randy thought the the actual breaking of the record wasn’t special? Imagine that.

Moss isn’t guiltless either. He should have known to watch what the hell he say. Moss know what the media thinks about him, and he shouldn’t have given them a reason to spout more negativity and tarnish a phenomenal regular season. Now, the media is mad because they felt insulted and it’s time for payback.

The mainstream sports media are a funny group of men (the women don’t act like this). You guys were dogging Randy Moss from day one! You dogged him in Minnesota and Oakland.  You labled him as a ‘locker room poison’. You brought up the police incident. You thought that he would ruin the Patriots and the ‘golden boy’.  What you dont see in Randy in his blowups in Minny and Oakland, his drive to win. He wants to win games and during the later years in Minny and Oakland, he wasn’t doing that.

Aside from that parking incident, did you see him ‘making it rain’? did you hear about him crashing Lamboghinis, carrying more weapons than the army, and causing some serious legal drama off the field? NO you haven’t!

Now that he’s doing good and everything is cool, you all want to act like he’s such a great guy, a leader , a professional, and all these great things, and now you expect him to forgive you all? You have a lot of nerve. So, I don’t blame Randy Moss for saying what he said.

When it comes to Flash 80, you media guys are even worse. Despite revering him and his accomplishments, you never really cared for him because he didnt handle you in the way you liked. In his later years in San Francisco and his stops in Oakland, and Seattle, year after year, you told him to retire because he was ‘tarnishing the legacy’, while you prased Brett Farve for his ‘longevity’.  You dissed Rice for being so focused on the game and not being marketable. When Rice decided to come out of his shell and appear on ‘Dancing With the Stars’, ‘Deal or No Deal, ‘The Class’, ‘The Game’, and ‘Sirus Satellite Radio’ and for the Bay Area ,’ Toyota Sports Sunday’ you accused him of not wanting to let go of the spotlight.

Now, you wanna act like you always liked Rice-pouring on extra admiration, honor, and respect for the way he changed the wide receiver position. You know, spare me the lies and B.S. ! You never gave a good kitty about Jerry Rice , allright! You are giving him extra credit because you can’t stand Randy Moss! For all I know, you probably talk trash behind his back about him being in an anchor’s chair and on satellite radio with his thick Mississippi accent. You were the same way with Muhammad Ali back in day. You hated him in his prime. Now, he beloved because he reminds you of how boxing used to be. It is the same thing with Rice. You thought he was a primadonna and a diva in his prime. Now, he  is a great guy because you think that the new generaton of wide receivers are 10x’s worse than what Rice was. You sportscasters and analysts are about as transparent as glass!

In this match up, noone wins. Jerry Rice should acknowlege and accept the fact that Randy Moss got the single season TD record fair and square regardless of  the number of games it took. Randy Moss should realize that he is still under scrutiny and should learn what to say. The mainsteam sports media should stop playing games and start doing their jobs without fawning, drooling and stanning!

Playoff Forecast:The AFC

Posted by jannelle on January 3, 2008

Patriots

Colts

 Chargers

Steelers

 Jaguars

 Titans

Wild Card

Titans vs Chargers

Jaguars vs Steelers

The AFC once again proves why it is the toughtest confrence to compete in. Some players and coaches around the league believe that this year’s field is the toughest ever. They may have a point because there have never been a five seed that ever struck fear in opponents like the Jacksonville Jaguars. This team definitely have upset potential. The Jags’ two man running attack of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, the consistent play of David Garrrad, and a stingy defense propelled the team to an 11-5 record. The Jags ended the season 2nd in the league in rushing. While Garrad boast a 102.2 quarterback rating. The Jags’ d is’nt  too shabby either. They ranked in the top 10 in nearly every defensive category. Not bad for a team thatr playes in the shadow of the Colts.

Speaking of the Colts, everyone forgot that these guys are the regining Super Bowl Champs, and they went 13-3 for the year. Ironically, Coach Dungy wouldn’t have it any other way. Being under ther radar suits them. It really suits them because there is no pressure on the team. Its only motivation becaue right now, its all about New England and Jacksonville. However, injuries to key players are a huge caveat here. Marvin Harrison was injured for virtually the entire season with a knee injury. Dwight Freeny  is on injured reserve. The reports are that Harrison may be able to play in the divisonal round . The question is, how rusty will he be? The loss of Freeny is critical becaue no pass rusher=problems. The Titans, Chargers, and Jags are great in the backfield and they will exploit that weakness.

I am suprised that the Chargers made the playoffs this year. When AJ Smith dumped Schottenheimer for Norv Turner last Feb., I said ‘ Turner will ruin this team’. In the early half of the season, I was right. The Bolts, however, turned it up in the second half and the players may have bought into Turner’s system after all. I don’t know if it is the weakness of the AFC West, or maybe Norv Turner modified his coaching and bought into the players’ way of doing things. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right.  The Chargers and the Colts are the true darkhorses of the playoffs.

To me, the Titans and the Steelers are the weakest links in the playoffs. Tennessee is one dimensional and Vince Young is inconstent and do not have quality receivers around him. With that said, he will move out of the pocket and scramble. Coach Jeff Fisher is basically using the possiblility of starting Kerry Collins as a ploy to throw off the Chargers’ D. We all know Vince will start. So, Fisher should stop the charade.

Pittsburgh may have won the AFC North but this is a weak team on defense. The Ravens exploited the hell out of the Steelers’ secondary on Sunday. If Troy Smith. Derek Mason, and Darling did that, what do you think Brady, Moss, Manning, Harrison, and Others will do?

For New England to continue their success, they must put 16-0 behind them quickly, and focus on 0-0. At the end of the season, the Patriots shouwd some dent’s in their armor. Primarly, their red zone defense. Offensively, I would like to see them run the ball more because opposing defenses will try and take away the pass.  Remember, four teams laid the blueprint for this, and would have won if they all didn’t choke at the end.   Now the stakes are higher, and there is no room for error for anyone.

In the wild card round, I pick the Jags over the Steelers and the Chargers over the Titans.
