How About the Ravens and The Cardinals’ Offense?

Posted by jannelle on September 30, 2007

If the Chargers need Viagra, Baltimore and Arizona need this for their Offensive Dysfunction!

When the moment is right, will ‘yall be ready? Baltimore, Ray and them are tired of the same old shit with the O! Arizona,  tell golden boy Linert to sit his whinning, overrated, Hollywood ass down and let Kurt actually win games!

San Diego should have never given Norv’s clown ass money!

Dedicated to the limp offense of the San Diego Chargers. Get rid of the coach and you won’t need this anymore!

Red Zone Picks: Week 4

Posted by jannelle on September 27, 2007

Week four will be a week of uncertainty. There are a handful of pivotal games with no convincing winners, and some guaranteed games. However, there is one game that I will avoid watching at all costs.

Texans vs Falcons

This is a battle of two fiesty teams. However, I believe that the Texans’ is too much for the Falcons to handle. Houston wins in  a real close one; maybe in overtime.

Ravens vs Browns

A prolific matchup between bitter AFC rivals. This year’s chapter is very interesting because this is the first time that Jamal Lewis will play against his old team.  Will the quarterback tandem of McNair and Boller be enough for victory? I say maybe. Ravens win in a close one

Raiders vs Dolphins

LOL @ Joey Porter’s simple ass guaranteeing a victory. He said “we (dolphins) will win the game” I say “No you wont” Look for a pissed off Daunte Culpepper and stingy defense to lead Oakland to victory.

Packers vs Vikings

Favre will continue to make a way out of noway and leave the Metrodome with Marino’s record and a Packers win. However, this will not be a easy win by no means.

Jets vs Bills

Look for Thomas Jones and Marshawn Lynch to battle it out in this low scoring game. Jets win?

Cowboys vs Rams

TO and Romo will have a field day picking the ‘Lambs apart. Dallas wins big again!

Bears vs Lions

To me , this hot mess of a game is known as the Circus game. Why? Because this will be lopsided and cruel. Look for Kitna and Calvin Johnson to wear down Chicago’s defense. Don’t even bother watching the game because as far as I am concerned, it is animal cruelty. Lions win big.

Bucs vs Panthers

This is another one of those pivotal games that can go either way. These teams are very similar to me. Carolina wins? Tampa wins? Honestly, this game is real piviotal.

Seahawks vs 49ers

Look for San Francisco to take advatage of a battered Seahawks team. Niners win in a tough one.

Chiefs vs Chargers

Shockingly this will be a close game since Norv Turner made his offense impotent. Kansas City wins.

Steelers vs Cardinals

Arizona doens’t have a chance and Matt, you now have to share  so therefore the Cards isn’t your team anymore!

Broncos vs. Colts

What a hard nosed and tough AFC clash. These teams match up very well. However, Denver’s D cannot stop Harrison and Co. Indy wins.

Eagles vs Giants

Look for Philadelphia to have a repeat performance against a weak Giant defense. Philly wins easily.

Patriots vs Bengals

This is another circus game. Avoid this one because this one is cruel. Patriots will whoop Cincy’s ass thoroughly!

Week 3 Thoughts/ Analysis

Posted by jannelle on September 27, 2007

Photos from NFL.com

Three weeks in the season, and we already have our share of constants and surprises.

Baltimore is constantly relying on defense and special teams to win games, New England is constantly winning in convincing fashion, and Chicago’s passing game constantly sucks.

Unexpectantly,  the Packers are 3-0 and they are doing it with an aging Farve and little else, the Cowboys are credible as NFC contenders, and the Saints are now the ‘Aints again.  I will rundown  14 of the games since I discussed Philadelphia and Detroit and Green Bay and San Diego earlier.

Titans-31   Saints-14

Judging from the way that New Orleans have been playing for two weeks, I’m not stunned at all. The Saints’ defense is porous, and their offense is having a hard time getting into a rhythm. They are having a time because it seems as if teams know how to stop the run.

Cowboys-34   Bears-10

This is what happens when your defense is responsible for everything. The Bears’ defense is fatigued and it showed late in this game. The Bears defense was out on the field for 35 minutes and 21 seconds, and it is all because of  Wrecks Grossman turning the ball over immediately after the defense scores an interception or a 3rd and out! Also a game like this happens when the owners are too damn cheap to pay their best offensive player what he deserves.  Chicago is successful if they are running. Letting Thomas Jones go to the Jets is a mistake and it may be the mistake that cost this team a playoff berth.

Panthers-27   Falcons-20

Atlanta is a team for two weeks that almost won a game. Almost won a game! When it comes to the National Football League, almost doesn’t count.  DeAngelo Hall is melting down and rightfully so becuase he is doing all he can to help the team win and for whatever reason, it is not good enough. I guess you can chalk up Atlanta’s woes  to haveing a coach fresh from college.

Giants-24   Redskins-17

To me, New York did not win this game. Washington gave it away! If Jason Campbell signaled a play action pass, the Redskins would have scored. I was LMAO when one Giant defensive player was sounding horns on a reporter trying to ask the question about the defense after the game. The player did that to the reporter because he don’t want to admit that the defense still have a way to go before it is solid.

Raiders-26   Browns-24

Oakland squeeks by Cleveland  in dramatic fashion. A game winning field goal by Jannikowski propelled the Raiders to their first victory since October of last year.  While this team may not be on anyone’s radar, Oakland showed heart in Cleveland!

Seahawks-24  Bengals-21

Well, it looked like Seattle outdueled Chad and Co. The Bengals put up a valliant effort but their defense is the weak link here.

Jaguars-23  Broncos-14

What an upset for Jacksonville. The Jags did this by winning the time of possession and David Garrad effectively managing the game. What a great win for Jack Del Rio.

Ravens-26  Cardinals-23

The Ravens were lucky this week.  That stomach chruning offense is taking its toll on a stellar defense.

Jets-31   Dolphins-28

The only thing I am surprised over is the fact that the score is closer than expected. But then again, this is the Jets we are talking about here.

Patriots-38  Bills-7

We already knew how this game would go. Nothing special here.

Colts-30  Texans- 24

The Colts winning is not shocking. What’s scary is Houston’s ability to make it a close game. What an upset that would have been if Houston won.

Steelers-37 49ers-16

Nothing surprising here. While San Francisco is a pretty decent team, they didn’t stand a chance against this AFC contender.

Bucs-24  Rams-3

It looks as if Garcia is paying off. I admit being skeptical but this was the right move for Gruden.  I only have one word for the Rams- LINT!

Chiefs-13  Vikings-10

What a gutty win by Kansas City.  Maybe this win is a stepping stone for this young team. Adrian Peterson continues to impress for the Vikings. Minny needs a better passing game because their opponets will stop the run first!

Sick Nasty: Eagles-56 Lions-21

Posted by jannelle on September 24, 2007

Photos from NFL.com

At halftime of the San Diego/Green Bay game, Dan Marino elequently described the Eagles’ route of the Lions as “Sick Nasty”  To tell you the truth, the score wasnt the only thing that was sick nasty on the field. For starters, no one on the field played defense yesterday. Philadelphia gave up 536 yards while Detroit gave up 432 yards.

Secondly, look at Philly’s uniforms LOL! The Eagles are celebrating their 75th anniversary and they are wearing the 1933 jerseys for a few games. Hey, if they can put out the same effort sans the sloppy defense, they should keep the uniforms for the rest of the year..

FIRE NORV TURNER!

Posted by jannelle on September 23, 2007

The quote from page 117 in Jerry Rice’s autobiography bears repeating again but this time I will write it in its entirety. Recalling his time with the Raiders post Super Bowl XXVII, Jerry wrote and I quote, “Norv was never really head coach material and hadn’t been successful in that role. He couldn’t control players, and guys like Charles Woodson walked all over him. Woodson routinely showed up late for practice and meetings when he felt like it, along with  some teammates. Even as we were losing, there was no sense of urgency.”

Today on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, Tom Jackson said the same thing about San Diego not playing with urgency especially during the “revenge game” against the Patriots last week.  Today, Norv and the Chargers turned in another passionless, half assed effort against Green Bay and the result was a 21-34 loss.

After three games of the Norv Turner era, I believe that it is time for General Manager AJ Smith  and Owner Alex Spanos to fire him because the state of the Chargers will not get any better. When the team replaced Marty Shottenheimer with Norv in the offseason, I just knew that he would ruin this Super Bowl caliber team. In three weeks, Turner  made a high powered, explosive offense impotent. LT has yet to break the 100 yard plateau, Phillip Rivers is still in need of quality receivers, and the defense  is doing all they can to help the team stay competitive. Overall the San Diego Chargers are reverting to thier loosing ways and it is all because of Norv.

This “coach” did the same thing in Oakland when he took an AFC Champion and ran it into the ground. Turner’s ways is what probably made Charles Woodson and other players apathetic. If this keeps up, I’m sure there will be some Chargers that will quit on his ass also. Why should they care if the coach obviously doesn’t?

I have a question for you guys out there, if Smith and Spanos in fact fire Norv, who should be his replacement?

Like Father Like Son

Posted by jannelle on September 22, 2007

A few months ago, USA Today mentioned that John Elway is helping out on his son’s varsity team. Two weeks ago, ESPN featured a story on Joe Montana’s quarterback sons.  What they covered was okay but there is something pretty interesting over here at the Red Zone!

While Jack Elway and Nathainel and Nicholas Montana is receiving the most press, Menlo High’s  Jerry Rice Jr. is making some noise early in his first year of varsity play! That’s right, Jerry Rice’s son is slicing through the Peninsula Athletic League’s Bay Divison.

In Menlo’s season opener, Rice caught 6 passes for 89 yards. In the second game, Rice exploded for 101 yards rushing, 1 touchdown and 46 yards receiving. During Menlo’s loss yesterday, Rice caught 5 passes for 83 yards and returned a punt to Terra Nova’s 20 yard line.

At this point in the season, Rice compiled 270 yards rushing on 32 carries, 19 receptions for 284 yards, and 7 touchdowns. On defense, Rice made 21 tackles as a safety, and accumulated 183 yards on kick and punt returns.

The scary thing about these stats is this kid is just scratching the surface of his potential!  In a recent interview from Inside Bay Area. com,  Knight’s coach Mark Newton said this about his young Wide Receiver/Tailback/DB “We thought he could be pretty good. He’s young and he is getting better every week. Every week, we see something in practice that make us think ‘wow’ “  Sr. quarterback, Travis Boyce said in the same feature that Rice, Jr. is coming into his own very fast.

After looking at these numbers and the picture above, I’m getting the impression that Jerry Jr will be a great multi purpose tailback! If Coach Newton will feature him somehow in the backfield, this kid will have a chance to further carve his own identity and the team will really be unstoppable.

Regardless of what position he plays,  Rice, Jr has it and he will be a great asset to a Div.1 school or even a pro team!

Red Zone’s Picks: Week 3

Posted by jannelle on September 21, 2007

Chargers vs Packers

If this was the beginning of the season, I would say that the Chargers would murder the Packers. Right now in week 3, I can honestly say that this will be a close game. However, I believe that the Chargers will leave Lambeau with the win.

Colts vs Texans

While Houston was impressive against Kansas City and Carolina, the chances of them beating the Colts are slim.

Lions vs Eagles

Dare I say it? Detroit begins the season at 3-0 for the first time in eons.

Steelers vs 49ers

Alex Smith and Frank Gore can not exploit Pittsburgh’s defense. The Steelers win this one easily.

Rams vs Bucs

St. Louis can and will rebound from their week two loss against the 49ers. While these teams are evenly matched, I believe that the Rams will run and run often thus running away with the win.

Vikings vs Chiefs

Look for Larry Johnson and Adrian Peterson to run up and down the field in this one. Kansas City wins a close one.

Bills vs Patriots

LOL this isn’t even a game! New England wins big again.

Dolphins vs Jets

Mangini wins in this latest chapter in of this storied rivalry! Trent Green will not be able to pick apart this defense.

Ravens vs Cardnals

The Ravens’ D will have a field day knocking around Matt Lineart, Larry Fitzgerald, and Edgerin James. Baltimore holds on for the win.

Bengals vs Seahawks

While Cincinatti may have problems on Defense, they have the offensive firepower to win. Seattle is overmatched.

Raiders vs Browns

I dont’ understand why Culpepper is not starting. McNown is not convinsing and not winning. Cleveland wins barely.

Broncos vs Jaguars

Jacksonville will be overpowered at Mile High. Denver wins easily.

Panthers vs Falcons

LMAO @ this game! Carolina wins!

Giants vs Redskins

The beatings continue as Portis and Betts run through New York’s weak secondary for the win.

Bears vs Cowboys

All Rex Grossman should do is put enough of points on the board and manage the game because the defense will win it for Chicago as usual.

Titans vs Saints

Now, Tenessee is showing a lot of heart this year while New Orleans is still trying to find theirs. The Titans will win it.

Week 2 Thoughts/Analysis

Posted by jannelle on September 21, 2007

 Photos from NFl.com

I apologize for being behind in my thoughts for week 2. I forgot to write this entry earlier. Since the week is over and week 3 is Sunday, I will just rundown week 2’s games of interest.

Packers-35  Giants-13

I can sum up this game in two ways: Favre isn’t on empty just yet, and the Giants suck ass!  Favre, Driver and a few assorted receivers lit up the Giants’ secondary for 286 yards and three touchdowns.  Now, the Giants are mad at the media because they are talking about the team’s heart or lack there of. Here’s a clip from NFL.com http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80288b65

My take is this: New York sure can lie! I mean, it is obvious that this team cannot stand Tom Coughlin. Manning, Strahan, Shockey, et al knows that the coach is on  the hot seat. If they have a loosing season, Tom and his dictating ass is out the door! Maybe loosing is just what this team needs to become winners next year. If Jerry Reece was any kind of GM, I would start destroying and rebuilding right now!

Browns-51  Bengals-45

This game here was the shocker of the week to me. No one was expecting Cleveland to A) Beat the Bengals and B) Score 51 points while doing it.  Romeo Crenell should stick with Anderson for awhile and see what happens.

Texans-34  Panthers 21

The second shocker of the day! The Texans come to Charlotte and leave with a win against a solid Panthers team. Ahman Green, a fiesty defense and Offensive Coordinator Mike Sherman are the keys to the Texans’ early season success.

Patriots-38  Chargers-14

For all the trash that San Diego talked the week before, they sure couldn’t back it up against New England. Moss and AD whipped the brakes off of LT and Merriman! This game is a prime example of the incompentence of Norv Turner as a head coach!  It’s a damn shame that the Chargers may not make the playoffs because of their general manager’s foolish ego!

Ode To McNabb

Posted by jannelle on September 19, 2007

I had the opportunity to catch the interview that Donovan McNabb did with Real Sports, and I cannot believe all of the flack and criticism that he has received in his career. Here is a quarterback that lead the Eagles to division and NFC championships, been to the pro bowl multiple times, not making it rain, not dogfighting, and no baby mama issues. However, that is not good enough for the football world.

Granted, he effed up in Super Bowl XXVIII but there are so many quarterbacks out there that have been effing up for their entire careers. Donovan’s been criticized by some reporters for running out of the pocket. A black paper in Philadelphia criticized him for morphing into a pocket passer.  While McNabb’s intentions are good, he cannot win for losing and tries too damn hard to please people.

Right now, he is returning from major knee surgery, and Philly is 0-2. Yeah, McNabb is out of sync but so is the entire team!  The video above fits this situation perfectly!
